CHIESA DI SAN ZENONE
Fondata con il decreto vescovile del 19 maggio 1670, la chiesa deve la dedicazione al Santo ad un’antica chiesa votata a san Zeno, patrono del paese. Durante il Medioevo Passirano era diviso in due comuni distinti, Passirano di sopra e Passirano di sotto (o P. di sera e P. di mattina), dotati di due amministrazioni e due parrocchie differenti, oggi completamente perdute, dipendenti dalla Pieve di Bornato fino alla fine del 1300. La prima era dedicata a San Zeno, in seguito alla diffusione del culto nella pianura bresciana da monaci pellegrini provenienti da Verona; la seconda era intitolata a San Pietro.
Nei secoli San Zeno assunse un ruolo di riferimento; si decise quindi di trasferirla nella chiesa dell’ex convento di San Rocco ormai in decadimento, non senza dispute tra parroco e fedeli. La rinascita di questo santuario nel nome di San Zeno contribuì alla creazione di un’unica parrocchiale per l’officio dei riti religiosi, in grado così di unificare nell’attività religiosa gli abitanti dei due paesi.
La chiesa parrocchiale di Passirano dedicata a San Zenone è oggi un interessante sito di visita in virtù dei recenti restauri, capaci di restituire al visitatore l’autentico splendore degli affreschi di Antonio Guadagnini (1817-1900) e dei suoi collaboratori. Del pittore di Esine, molto prolifico nella seconda metà dell’Ottocento in numerose chiese del bresciano, è qui possibile ammirare i caratteristici schemi iconografico-compositivi e tematiche sacre presenti nel suo repertorio, colto e accademico, che negli affreschi di San Zenone inizia ad aprirsi a forme espressive più popolari e dirette, secondo le nuove esigenze dettate dalla committenza religiosa.
Di rilievo dal punto di vista votivo e storico-culturale è la raccolta di ex-voto donati dai fedeli legati alla devozione della Madonna dell’Abito: 50 piccole tavolette lignee e tre di grandi dimensioni, dipinte per la maggior parte tra il Settecento e l’Ottocento, che raffigurano per la maggior parte la Madonna, in virtù della devozione legata alla statua lignea della Beata Vergine dell’Abito, probabilmente portata in paese dai padri Serviti dalla Toscana e a cui sono attribuiti eventi miracolosi.
Inizialmente collocata nel santuario di San Rocco e quindi nella chiesa parrocchiale con un altare dedicato, la statua fu nel tempo spostata nel santuario adiacente ed oggi non è più esposta alla venerazione dei fedeli.
ENGLISH VERSION - CHIESA DI SAN ZENONE
Founded by the Episcopal decree on the 19th of May 1670, the church owes its dedication to an ancient church dedicated to Saint Zeno, the patron saint of the village.
During the Middle Ages Passirano was divided into two distinct municipalities, Passirano di sopra and Passirano di sotto (or P. di sera and P. di mattina), with two different administrations and two different parishes, now completely lost, dependent on the Pieve di Bornato until the end of the 14th century. The first was dedicated to St. Zeno, following the spread of the cult to the Brescia plain by pilgrim monks from Verona; the second was dedicated to St. Pietro.
Over the centuries, St. Zeno took on a leading role; it was therefore decided to move it to the church of the now decaying former convent of San Rocco, not without disputes between the parish priest and the faithful. The rebirth of this sanctuary in the name of San Zeno contributed to the creation of a single parish church for the officiating of religious rites, thus unifying the inhabitants of the two villages in religious activity.
The parish church of Passirano, dedicated to San Zenone, is today an interesting site to visit thanks to recent renovation, capable of restoring to visitors the authentic splendor of the frescoes by Antonio Guadagnini (1817-1900) and his collaborators. By the painter from Esine, who was very prolific in the second half of the 19th century in numerous churches in the Brescia area, it is possible here to admire the characteristic iconographic compositional schemes and sacred themes present in his repertoire, both cultured and academic, which in the frescoes of San Zenone begins to open up to more popular and direct forms of expression, according to the new requirements dictated by religious patronage.
Of importance from a votive and historical-cultural point of view is the collection of ex-votos donated by the faithful linked to the devotion of the Madonna dell'Abito, today collected in a sanctuary: 50 small wooden panels and three large ones, mostly painted between the 18th and 19th centuries, depicting the Madonna, in virtue of the devotion linked to the wooden statue of the Blessed Virgin dell'Abito, probably brought to the town by the Serviti fathers from Tuscany and to which miraculous events are attributed. Initially placed in the sanctuary of San Rocco and then in the parish church with a dedicated altar, the statue was in time moved to the adjacent sanctuary and today is no longer exposed to the veneration of the faithful.
